If You Ever Change Your Mind about Leaving Me Behind...
As you may have guessed from my complete lack of posts since September, my senior year has been a bit stressful. But, things are now coming to a close and I can relax.
Even as the last weeks of classes came and went, I never fully realized that the Undergraduate chapter of my life is almost over. But then, I aired my last show of Music Is My Boyfriend on WRUW, the campus radio station. With the end of that show, I became fully aware of how real my leaving Case Western and Cleveland really is--and that soon, I will uproot myself to start over in an entirely new place.
Despite the sadness, I am actually rather proud of the way my last show came together. I treated myself and my listeners to some of my favorite songs, for a "Best Of" show. An archived MP3 of the show can be downloaded here, but will only be available until 4pm on Wednesday May 9th, so download now.
The tracklist:
The Futureheads - Hounds of Love
Beck - Devil's Haircut
Herbert - The Movers and the Shakers
Deerhoof - Milk Man
The Black Keys - 10 A.M. Automatic
Fugazi - Target
Pavement - Summer Babe (Winter Version)
They Might Be Giants - Anna NG
Pixies - Here Comes Your Man
The Blow - Parentheses (by request)
New Pornographers - Letter from an Occupant
Teenage Fanclub - What You Do To Me
Rockpile - When I Write A Book
Lucksmiths - Self-Preservation
Elvis Costello - Accidents Will Happen
XTC - Season Cycle
Jens Lekman - A Sweet Summer's Night on Hammer Hill
Los Zafiros - Un Nombre De Mujer
Marit Larsen - Come Closer
Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
Bjork - Bachelorette
The Books - There Is No There
Rachel's - Water From the Same Source
Low - Sunflower
Arthur Russell - A Little Lost
Calexico/Iron and Wine - Dead Man's Will
Cat Power - Lived In Bars
Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home To Me
Tom Waits - Downtown Train
Narrowing down this list was pretty difficult. I was actually a little rushed because of the hellishness of last week. The list may have been different if I had more time to carefully select everything. But all in all, I think it represents what Music Is My Boyfriend was about for the past 3 years. The string of songs from The Blow through Arcade Fire may be the poppiest set I have ever put together. And that's really saying something, considering my trends in music tastes.
The calls I received during my show were also incredibly touching. I got at least a handfull of calls from listeners telling me how much they enjoyed the show over the past three years, that they will miss hearing it, and wishing me well after my graduation. There were also a few calls from fellow station DJs saying goodbye. I was a little awestruck. It's strange how you rarely realize how much something means to you, or those around you, until you're finishing up and packing your bags. (Cue the collective "Awwwww")
